The Montana Wounded Warrior bear hunting season got off to an early start at Spotted Bear in Western Montana. Limited snowfall and warm weather had the bears out early as Lisa Lee of the Diamond R Guest Ranch welcomed Jon Kristjauson of Billings and Chris Mazur of Belgrade to camp. Jon and Chris had never bear hunted before, and were impressed with the scenery and mountains of the Spotted Bear area. Lead guide Dylan Curry had the crew up early and late into the evening hunting hard, but the bears were not cooperating. Numerous bears were sighted and approached, but success was elusive. Both Chris and Jon hunted very hard and were very excited to be able to hunt, and hope for better success in the future, and enjoyed their time in camp immensely.
The following week, Wounded Warriors MacKay Mathiason and Brandon Olson, both of Billings, arrived to test their skills. Again they hunted from early morning till dusk. Both MacKay and Brandon were able to harvest bears, MacKay on the last day of his hunt. A bonus was Brandon\’s video of a huge grizzly bear up close and personal, an experience of a lifetime.
Fishing for cutthroat trout in the river was also very good due to the low runoff.
Great fishing, hunting, guiding and accommodations, but most importantly motivated and appreciative hunters concluded an amazing experience.
