The weekend of October 7th-9th brought Montana Wounded Warriors Jacob Schenck, Kevin Chasson, and Chad Wigley to the best Pheasant habitat in Montana. On Friday night we stayed at a great ranch style B&B outside of Mosby, MT. Then, after waking up Saturday morning and eating a wonderful breakfast, we headed out to the Weller’s Farm in Winnett. Upon seeing this spectacular sunrise we knew it was going to be a great day!
After knocking down a few pheasants that morning, we decided to take a few hours off and do some long range shooting. First at targets, then working our way up through pumpkins with tannerite, and finishing off with some Prairie Dogs. We had a special guest along named “Zeus” – a German Wire-haired Pointer (GWP) – that was donated to Montana Wounded Warriors and later placed with Jacob Schenck. Zeus is Jacob’s service dog in training and had never hunted before. Though he had a steep learning curve, he took huge steps at becoming a champion! We took an hour and worked him with Barli who is also a GWP. This worked out great and this is when Zeus completed his first point and retrieve! Then we went to the fields again in the afternoon and knocked some more birds down! A big thank you to the Weller family for allowing us to hunt their land and for feeding us some great family style cooking.
