Montana Wounded Warriors was honored to be a part of this repeated trip to bird hunt in Culbertson with the Aspenlieder, Knutson, and Christofferson families. This is such a special hunt that the Warriors get to be a part of all three of these amazing families. The Warriors this year that joined the family were Mike Bossen and Clint Mainwaring. Mike was vital to this trip because he brought his experienced bird dogs to help us in what was expected to be a rough year for birds. We all arrived up in Culbertson the first evening for dinner and had a bunch of laughs while we got to know each other. The Aspenlieder Family opened their home to us and housed us as they have every year since this began. We could not have been more welcome and had a nice bed to stay in. That next morning we met up for breakfast and the Warriors got to meet their seasoned guides, Scott Aspenlieder and Austin Knutson. The fun started there and never stopped for the entire weekend. They took us out all over the country they grew up on and we hunted hard but the majority of the pheasants that flew up were all hens. The rough summer had been brutal on the birds and finding some roosters was tough. We went to the amazing Christofferson Family farm and they spoiled us with treats and the full guided service throughout their land. Even then the birds were scarce. The Warriors were not deterred and they had a few opportunities to drop some pheasants. We had another amazing meal from Shele Christofferson, as is their families tradition each year. We ended the night with some fun at the Knudson’s farm. The final day we did some more tough hunting and some long range shooting to top off the evening before the long drive back home. The hunting was tough but the Warriors had a great time and will always be a part of the new families they experienced this with. Thank you to the Aspenlieder, Knutson, and Christofferson families for making this yet another memorable trip.
